Powerline - Audio Distribution
( currently unobtainable )
Distribute audio around you office or home with invisible wires Music from a hi-fi system, a PC or an MP3 player can be "piped" into the mains circuit of a building and then adaptors can be plugged into sockets in other rooms to distribute the music using Powerline Audio (aka Homeplug audio). A PC can be connected to a hi-fi (or vice versa) or to a set of active speakers could be plugged in to take music to a room with no computer or sound equipment.
You don't even need to use a PC - just use a hi-fi and a set (or sets) of active (ie powered) speakers.
Power is supplied and distributed around a building at 50Hz. However, the wires are actually capable of carrying a range of other frequencies which can be 'tuned-in' using appropriate equipment. Powerline technology (aka homeplug) takes advantage of this unused bandwidth of the electrical wiring in the office or home. The Powerline device plugs into the electrical socket and draws power for the device. At the same time, it sends data signals down the power cord. A second Powerline device can then be placed in any electrical outlet in the building to receive the signal.
Now any Ethernet device (network computer, printer, camera, internet cable/DSL modem) can connect to the Powerline Ethernet port and create a network. Range on Powerline can be expected to be 100m or more. Generally any circuit working on the same electricity meter will provide a good connection. It's a bit like a baby listener - but audio, video and data signals need to be much better quality and hence the equipment is of a finer quality, but the overall principle is the same.
Enjoy the benefits of such superb audio technology The latest addition to Devolo뭩 award winning range of HomePlug products now bridges the gap between PC small office/home networking and audio. The MicroLink dLAN Audio can be plugged into any power socket, and communicates with any number of music sources over your existing power circuit: With the HiFi in one room or the multi-media PC in another; with Internet radio or with an MP3 file server - just about any sound source can be streamed anywhere in the office or house. As with all Devolo HomePlug adapters, it뭩 dead easy: Plug it into a power socket and use the audio input or output sockets to connect it to the audio devices. Even four separate channels can be pre-programmed when Devolo뭩 own plug-ins for Windows Media Player or Winamp are used in combination with a MicroLink dLAN Ethernet adapter?and all that in 192kbps stereo quality!
